This is the story of “the road traveled with my companions”… my four legged companions that is!

Panel 1

About

Lukas came into my life June, 2008, at close to 8 weeks old (born April 24, 2008).  He was a beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd.  In 2015, he started to lose his color.  It first started in the face and worked down to his tail.   Initially, I thought it was just age related.  It ended up being Uveodermatologic Syndrome (UDS) which is an immune-mediated canine disease characterized by inflammation of the eye, depigmentation of the skin and whitening of hair.  Morbidity is related primarily to the eye inflammation, which can result in secondary ophthalmological disorders that lead to blindness.

Micah came into my life April, 2016, when he was close to 16 weeks (born December 21, 2015).  He was so tiny for a four month old full size Australian Shepherd weighing only 12 pounds.  He had chronic diarrhea and in fact did not have a solid stool until February, 2017 – almost 14 months into his life.  He was diagnosed Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which is a condition in which the intestine is chronically infiltrated by inflammatory cells. It is characterized by certain cells invading the wall of the intestine or stomach. The cells are those associated with inflammation, which is the body’s reaction to an insult or injury.

Courageous Kaiden came into my life July, 2017 (born May 5, 2017).  He, too, is an blue merle Australian Shepherd.  He is very intuitive.  He understands much…  he is fast and I have sworn to allow him to run with wind and not slow him down.  I must learn how to run with him.  He challenges me… yet shows a great deal of patience.  He’s a good dog!

“Sir Lukas,” “Mighty Micah” and “Courageous Kaiden” participate in “dog agility.”  This is the story of our traveling together as a “team.”
